Under the general supervision of the Computer & Network Systems Manager, this position is responsible for supporting Unix, Linux server and desktop environments. Ideal candidate should be a motivated, self-starter who can manage multiple projects and priorities within a fast-paced environment.  Incumbent is expected to have sound knowledge of computer and networking technology. 

Essential Functions

  • Manages Linux, Unix, Solaris, Servers, Backups, and various 3rd party applications and provides administration and support for these applications.
  • Recommends the design, configuration and management of Linux servers and desktop operating systems.
  • Responsible for managing monitoring, maintenance and performance TWiki, Docushare, Apache, MySQL, POSTGRES, and makes recommendations for improvements/upgrades.
  • Monitor network security products such as firewall software/hardware, virus scanners, malware, and spyware tools.
  • Manages Video conferencing systems and related alternative products such as Polycom, Zoom, ReadyTalk and Skype.
  • Provides systems administration support for all WMKO staff and visitors.
  • Maintains relationships and works with vendors and consultants on projects and technical support issues.
  • Works effectively with coworkers and others by sharing ideas in a constructive, positive manner; listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others; keeping commitments; keeping others informed of work progress and issues; addressing problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical solutions; and respecting the diversity of the WMKO workforce in actions, words, and deeds.
  • Maintains commitment to a high standard of safety, comply with all safety laws and WMKO safety policies/rules, and reports actual and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel to further WMKO's core value of safety.

Required Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of experience with Unix shell, or other scripting languages.
  • Three (3) years of experience configuration/administration Linux server, preferably RHEL and Centos
  • Three (3) years of experience supporting and maintaining Unix Server hardware
  • Familiar with disaster recovery concepts.
  • Experience in configuring and managing TCP/IP networks.
  • Understand Internet services such as IIS6, IIS7, Apache configuration.
  • Experience in installing, configuring and running MySQL Server.
  • Experience with Virtualization technologies.
  • Proven ability to evaluate technologies and make recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Linux certifications.
  • Experience with Sun Hardware and Solaris maintenance
  • Familiar with Audio Visual and Teleconferencing equipment.
  • Unix certifications.
  • Virtualization Concepts and VMWare ESXi.
  • VOIP Systems, Mitel.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role may use standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
