WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
As our full-time Night Attendant, you work to maximize observing efficiency by maintaining safe, productive conditions during night operations of the observatory. You regularly perform operational checks of key systems throughout the facility, diagnose and repair malfunctioning systems, and advise Observing Assistants of weather conditions. As needed, you perform cryogen fills, telescope/instrument reconfigurations, and slitmask milling, as well as troubleshoot nighttime problems independently or with a team. Your knowledge of observatory emergency procedures helps you be prepared in the event of emergencies or accidents. At the end of each shift, you ensure the facility is properly shut down. You also lend a helping hand wherever needed. Thanks to your operational support, the consequences of personnel accidents or illness are minimized and everyone in the observatory is safe. - Five (5) years of work experience in a responsible position
- Mechanical and electrical experience
- Familiarity with basic hand tools
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to support night shift, weekend, and day shift operations
- Valid driver's license with a clean record
- Ability to perform the physical aspects associated with the position
Associates of Science Degree in Engineering or similar field and work knowledge of Electronics design and fabrication is preferred, but not required.
