W.M. Keck Observatory in Kamuela, HI is looking to hire a full-time Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform essential upkeeping jobs around our work building. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FACILITIES MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

As our Facilities Maintenance Technician, you are responsible for the upkeep of our grounds and building. Every day, you perform a wide variety of duties that keeps our work area clean and comfortable. You complete regular preventative maintenance and general repairs on our HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems, working with outside contractors as needed. To maintain a pleasant aesthetic, you meticulously repaint structures, drywall, and plaster as well as perform basic masonry work. When people move offices or conference rooms need to be set up, you assist with moving furniture and setting up audio and video equipment.

You keep a close eye on our maintenance, cleaning, bathroom, and kitchen supplies, ordering materials before they run out. As you complete your duties, you drive a variety of vehicles ranging from forklifts to 4WD SUVs. You also help maintain these vehicles by filling their gas tanks, washing them, and preparing them for the morning crew. If other needs arise, you are happy to jump in and help however possible. You take great pride in maintaining our facility and helping us complete the important work we do!


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years of general building maintenance or construction experience
  • Ability to effectively use maintenance and custodial equipment
  • Ability to complete forklift training and certification
  • Proficiency with basic computer skills
  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record

Experience in electrical, HVAC, custodial, or automotive repair positions would be preferred. Forklift experience is a bonus. Are you highly motivated to do a great job?
