The W. M. Keck Observatory (WMKO) operates two 10-meter optical/infrared telescopes and an associated suite of advanced instrumentation. These telescopes have been extremely productive scientifically and have allowed the WMKO science community to play a leading role in understanding the universe from our solar system, to exoplanets, black holes, the earliest galaxies, and dark matter and energy.

Under the general guidance of the Lead Electronics Engineer, this position designs, develops, tests, installs and commissions custom electronic systems and COTS hardware in the areas of motion control, camera systems, telemetry and facility power. In the near term, this position will focus on completing the design, implementation, and commissioning of upgrades to the summit subsystems to improve reliability, situational awareness, and remote operations capability to a level required to safely operate the summit facility in the Unattended Nighttime Operations mode (UNO).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of applicable work experience, preferably in a team environment.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in industrial/manufacturing development or research across the full development and product lifecycle.
