W. M. Keck Observatory

Do you enjoy working in a highly-technical, operations, or industrial environment? Would you like to work at one of the world's greatest observatories and in close collaboration with other technicians who support the daily telescope operations?  If so, we want to hear from you!

All qualified applicants, including women, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

The W. M. Keck Observatory (WMKO) operates two 10-meter optical/infrared telescopes and an associated suite of advanced instrumentation. These telescopes have been extremely productive scientifically and have allowed the WMKO science community to play a leading role in understanding the universe from our solar system, to exoplanets, black holes, the earliest galaxies, and dark matter and energy.

Under the general supervision of the Instruments and Optics Supervisor, the Senior Electronics Technician (Sr. ET) contributes to WMKO's commitment to nightly operational readiness and development of front-line capabilities by providing electronics technical support of Daily Telescope Operations. The Sr. ET, assisted by other electronics technicians (ETs), provides hands on service of electrical and electronics hardware, including first-pass troubleshooting, preventative and corrective maintenance, and guidance and support of continuous improvement efforts. The Sr. ET guides other ETs by providing expert technical knowledge and mentoring. The Sr. ET may also assist in the general areas of adaptive optics, facility instruments, laser, and other optical systems.
